Collaboration Produces Monthly Localvore Lunches
July 15, August 26, September 23 & October 21
Westminster Cares, Our Place Drop-In Center and the Council on
Aging are teaming on a new monthly community meal featuring
foods produced locally.
On July 15, August 26, September 23, and October 21, the
church doors will be open at noon to all community members
interested in a healthy lunch and the companionship of
neighbors.
Westminster Cares already serves over 100
Great Falls community members with local
well-being programs addressing physical and emotional needs and
will promote the monthly lunches at class sessions this summer.
“Nutrition education and another opportunity for seniors
and disabled adults to interact socially fit nicely with all
that we do,” said Ronnie Friedman.
“Many community members don’t know about the nutrition and
community development expertise of our staff,” noted Executive
Director Susan Shea.
“Our Place is happy to share Ana, our talented and savvy
part-time cook who is a local farmer and board member of the
local farmers market, for this effort.”
On the menu for the July 15th
Localvore Lunch is
roasted or grilled pork and veggies, new potato and pea salad,
fresh salad (baby Asian greens, grated carrots and
chioggia beets, scallions, summer radishes, and
cucumbers, and panecotta with local blueberries and raspberries.
Coming attractions include gazpacho, a Spanish tortilla
style frittata with new potato, Grafton Cheddar, and baby
onions, all-local beef chili, and roasted chicken and root
vegetables.
Nearly 100% of the ingredients in the meals will be from local
farms, and food-related costs will be covered by the Council on
Aging with
American Recovery Reinvestment Act of 2009 funds.
Donations of any amount will be accepted.
